APEC in Lima:
SOM1, Day 9

On the ninth day of the First Senior Officials Meeting (SOM1) and related meetings, delegations from the 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies gathered at the Lima Convention Center.

On this date, technical groups convened to address issues pertinent to digital economy, investments, free trade dialogue between Asia and the Pacific, among others.

Indecopi (Peruvian Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property) participated in the Digital Economy Steering Group (DESG) Plenary Meeting. They presented a project titled “Research on Potential Applications of Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Product Recall Procedures in the Region”, aiming to extend specific policies on technological advancements and the institution’s progress on the matter.

On the other hand, Faizal Mohd Yusof, APEC Investment Experts Group Coordinator, emphasized the importance of an inclusive and interconnected approach in trade and investment: “We must continue to prioritize a balanced approach while ensuring alignment with environmentally sustainable goals,” he asserted. Moreover, discussions at the Friends of the Chair on Trade and Investment (FoTC) Meeting delved into enhancing connectivity among the commercial markets of APEC member economies
