APEC in Lima:
SOM1, Day 2

Sunday 25 February was the second day of the First APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM1) and related meetings. Delegates from member economies discussed issues related to illegal logging, oceans and fisheries, food security, and intellectual property in technical sessions.

Peru’s Vice Minister for Agricultural Development Policy and Supervision, Víctor Parra, participated in the PPFS Policy Partnership on Food Security Plenary Meeting (day 2). In his intervention, he outlined the principles that will seek to facilitate APEC economies’ ability to identify practical strategies to prevent food loss and waste, in line with the Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030.

Another key participant was the Vice Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Desilú León, from the Peruvian Ministry of Production (PRODUCE), who attended the OFWG Ocean and Fisheries Working Group Plenary Meeting (day 1) and addressed key issues such as the fight against illegal fishing.

“The Peruvian business community will always be ready to share its experiences and exchange ideas on how to achieve our common goals in APEC. This will be done mainly through this working group to promote the development of the Asia-Pacific region in fisheries, aquaculture, and oceans,” highlighted Vice Minister León.
