Peru Has Initiated a Series of Meetings and Activities in Preparation for APEC 2024
- As the host economy for APEC in 2024, Peru hosted the Symposium on APEC policy priorities for the coming year as well as the APEC Informal Senior Officials’ Meeting (ISOM).
- This marks Peru’s third time hosting the APEC forum, providing Peru with a valuable opportunity to enhance its relations with the Asia-Pacific region.
APEC Senior Officials and delegations from the 21 member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) convened in Lima to delve into and discuss the key policy priorities that will shape APEC Peru’s agenda in 2024.
Peru hosted a Symposium to present the policy priorities, on December 4. This event attracted the participation of experts and academics, both national and international, who provided essential support for the upcoming year’s theme. Attendees included representatives from the private sector, academia, civil society, and international organizations.
The Symposium started with opening remarks from Ambassador Carlos Vázquez, 2024 Senior Officials’ Meetings Chair, and Julia Torreblanca Marmanillo, Chair of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) for 2024. The event reached its conclusion with closing remarks delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, Foreign Minister Javier González-Olaechea Franco.
The findings and suggestions discussed at the Symposium will be analyzed from different perspectives. These insights will be disseminated during the Informal Senior Officials’ Meeting (ISOM) to be held on December 5. The primary objective is to foster the advancement of the main theme and policy priorities put forth by Peru, throughout its role as the APEC host economy in 2024.
Simultaneously, at the ISOM, the team will share the schedule for meetings and the logistical details and activities planned for 2024 in the cities of Arequipa, Urubamba, Pucallpa, Trujillo, and Lima, host cities of this Asia-Pacific forum for 2024.
