SOM2 and Related Meetings, day 5

On day 5 of SOM2 and related events, important agreements were reached for the benefit of citizens. In addition, the plenary meetings of the working groups that had been taking place were concluded.

APEC Telecommunications and Information Working Group

The second part of the 68th Plenary Meeting of the APEC Telecommunications and Information Working Group, which started on May 4, concluded.

Some of the participating economies, including Peru, represented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, presented new perspectives and regulatory policies on telecommunications,leading to a discussion on best practices and experience sharing during this event. In addition, the convenors of the TEL steering groups shared their reports on debates in their respective sessions.

To conclude this plenary meeting, the economies expressed their appreciation for the organization, hospitality and innovative telecommunications and information topics addressed in the roundtables and workshop led by Peru.

Human Resources Development Working Group (HRDWG)

The 49th plenary meeting of the Human Resources Development Working Group (HRDWG), held from 4 to 8 May, concluded successfully. The main theme was “Building the bridge from the informal to the formal economy: promoting investment in inclusive and equitable human resources development in the Asia-Pacific region”.

In this closing meeting, the networks coordinators reported on the main outcomes of the education, labor and social protection and capacity building networks meetings, which highlighted the importance of promoting inclusive education systems with emphasis on persons with disabilities for their effective inclusion in the labor market, the need to create accessibility policies to support the revision of disability standards, the reskilling and upskilling of skills in the informal sector to increase job opportunities, among others.

The “APEC HRDWG Arequipa Goals”, which aims to bolster cooperation among APEC member economies in advancing policies that empower people with disabilities for sustainable and inclusive growth, were approved by consensus of the 21 APEC member economies.

The event was attended by the Vice-Minister of Employment Promotion and Labour Training, Mr. Jesús Baldeón Vásquez, and was closed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion, Teresa Velásquez Bracamonte.
